Sister Francene Merkosky

Sister Francene Merkosky, OLVM, 97, a resident of Victory Noll, in Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Victory Noll's Holy Family Health Care Center.
Sister Merkosky entered the Congregation of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters on Oct. 27, 1945, and made her first vows on Aug. 5, 1948. She served in missions in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, California, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky and Florida. She retired from ministry in Opa Locka, FL, in 2001 and returned to Victory Noll.
She was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Cavell, Saskatchewan, Canada to Vincent and Anna Bittner Merkosky.
She is survived by two brothers, Leonard Merkosky and Allan Merkosky, and four sisters, Sister Zita Merkosky, SSND, Hedwig Wurzer, Gloria Maguire and Diane Loewan, all of Canada.
A vigil service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at 7 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at the Victory Noll Chapel, 1900 W. Park Drive, Huntington. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at the Victory Noll Chapel. Burial will be at Victory Noll Cemetery.
