John Charles Hiss, 81, of Donaldson, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at 9:05 p.m. at the Catherine Kasper Life Care Center, in Donaldson.
Mr. Hiss, a veteran of the United States Air Force, was a truck driver for Del Monte and Young Door. He also drove a school bus and was a farmer. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and attended the chapel at the Catherine Kasper Home for may years.
He was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Plymouth to Paul C. and Helen Kelley Hiss. He married Peggy Barrett on May 19, 1956, and she survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Judy (Ken) Skarbeck, of Indianapolis; Debra (Hal) Brey, of Tigard, OR; and Nancy (Bryce) Gardner, of Santee, CA; a son, Charlie (Nancy) Hiss, of Kokomo; three sisters, Helen (Bill) Shorter and MaryAnn McLochlin, both of Plymouth, and Kathy (Bruce) Van Gilder, of Huntington; and three grandchildren, Megan Hiss, Molly Skarbeck and Ellie Skarbeck.
Calling is Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Catherine Kasper Life Care Center Chapel, 9601 Union Rd., Donaldson. A service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at 11:15 a.m., with Rev. John Zemelko officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, Plymouth.
