Maxine L. Smith, 90, of Warren, IN, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at 6:30 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.
Mrs. Smith was a 1941 graduate of Roanoke High School, where she was salutatorian. She and her husband operated a hog farm. They also performed on piano and rattle bones at the Forks of the Wabash Historic Park and several local nursing homes. She was a former resident of Huntington and a member of the Northview Church of Christ.
She was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Huntington County to Clarence A. and Tessie A. Landrum Dolby. She married Glen W. Smith on March 14, 1942, in Andrews. Her husband preceded her in death on March 3, 2000.
Survivors include a son, Marvin G. (Nancy) Smith, of Huntington; two daughters, Sharon (Don) Bole, of Hartford City, and Kathy (James) Close, of North Webster; a sister, Evelyn (Roland) Wehr, of Marion; six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Calling is Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Gerald O. Moreland officiating. Interment will be at the Markle Cemetery.
