Darlene C. Surfus, 80, of rural Markle, IN, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at 8 a.m. at her residence.
Mrs. Surfus attended School in Manistee, MI. She had worked at the Shultz Restaurant, Model Engineering, Nowak's Hallmark and A Touch of Elegance. She was a member of the Wells County Extension Homemakers, holding the title of president as well as being the Homemaker of the Year in 2000. She was a member of the Perseverance Band, the Rockford Friendship Club and Buckeye Christian Church.
She was born on March 25, 1933, in Manistee, MI, to Elijah "Gail" and Cecilia Steinburg Boxell. She married Albert R. "Steve" Surfus on Nov. 26, 1953, at SS. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Huntington. Her husband survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Linda (Rick) Till, of Fort Wayne; Kathy (Tom) Reed, of Huntington; and Carol (Jeff) Southard, of Bluffton; two sons, Richard (Diane) Surfus, of Huntington, and Alan (Beth) Surfus, of Markle; eight grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Till, of Bangkok, Thailand; Jamie Till and Eric (Lauren) Till, both of Fort Wayne; Traci Reed, of Indianapolis; Noah Reed and Jenny DePoy, both of Huntington; Lauren Southard and Dalton Southard, both of Bluffton; and three great-grandchildren.
Calling is Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Glancy-H. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 203 N Matilda St., Warren. A funeral service will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Richard Bunnell will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Warren.
