Sylvia A. Parrett, 66, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 3:20 a.m. at Heritage Pointe in Warren.
Mrs. Parrett graduated from Northside High School in Fort Wayne in 1965 and received an associate's degree in nursing from University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne. She worked at Fort Wayne Eye Center for more than 11 years as a registered nurse in surgery. She also worked at Huntington Foot Clinic for 12 years as an assistant in podiatry. She ran a business called Foot Calls, doing in-home foot care.
She was a 45-year member of the Huntington Church of the Nazarene, where she assisted in Space Cubs, vacation Bible school, taught Sunday school for kindergarten for 16 years, served on the Nazarene Missions Council for three years, helped with the church's food pantry and sang in the choir for 35 years.
She was born Oct. 17, 1947, in New Orleans, LA, to Sidney O. and Texas Bell Bailey Thomas. She married Mark W. Parrett on May 26, 1967, in Huntington, and he survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Matthew Wade (Priscilla) Parrett, of China; a daughter, Teresa Marie Parrett, of Huntington; a brother, Sidney O. Thomas Jr., of Duncanville, TX; and six grandchildren, Wade Thomas, Marc Owen, Selina Nicole, Brandon Lee, Jennifer Nicole and Katherine May.
Calling is Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to service, at Huntington Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington. Rev. Matthew Parrett and Rev. Gene Vickery will officiate. Burial will take place in Mt. Etna Cemetery in Huntington County.
Memorial gifts may be made to Huntington Church of the Nazarene Food Pantry or Heartland of Fort Wayne Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
