Iris H. Clark, 79, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, in Eugene, OR.
Mrs. Clark graduated from Centerville High School in 1952 and earned her nursing credentials from Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis. She worked as a surgical nurse in Indianapolis and as a registered nurse at Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany. She spent most of her professional career as a nurse in the medical practice of Dr. S.E. Cope, in Huntington. She later worked as secretary at Christ the King Episcopal Church, in Huntington.
She served as an at-large representative on the Huntington Common Council from 1980 to 1995 and was affiliated with the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns. She was active in historic preservation and was a founding member of Huntington Alert.
She was born Sept. 30, 1934, in Fort Recovery, OH, and was raised by Alfred "Buff" and Dorothy Berniece Breymier Resh in Centerville.
Survivors include a son, Chris (Cathy) Clark, of Boulder, CO; two daughters, Erin Gilchrist, of Bandon, OR, and Stephanie Clark, of North Hollywood, CA; two sisters, Phyllis (Jerry) Mattheis, of Cambridge City, and Mary Ann (Jim) Carp, of Hampton, GA; a brother, James A. (Sandra) Resh, of Richmond; and three grandchildren, Emma Clark, Aidan Clark and Ronan Clark.
Calling is Thursday, March 6, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, Huntington. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Guilford St., Huntington. Rev. Robert Land will officiate. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at Lutherania Cemetery, 2000 Liberty Ave., Richmond.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Huntington Parks and Recreation Department for the Stanton E. Cope Memorial Playground at Drover Park, to Huntington Alert or to Historic Landmarks of Indiana in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
