James C. Hayes

James C. Hayes, 81, of Wabash, IN, and a native of Huntington, IN, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 4:29 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hayes was a 1951 graduate of Wabash High School. He retired from Wabash City Schools. He had served as an officer with the Wabash Police Department and the North Manchester Police Department, where he was a former chief. He was a member and deacon at Calvary Chapel Christian Center, in Wabash.
He was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Huntington to Jay and Mildred Steerhof Hayes. He married Patricia C. Burton on July 13, 1954, and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2013.
Survivors include a son, Jim (Lynette) Hayes, of Metairie, LA; a daughter, Vickie (Terry) Thompson, of North Manchester; five grandchildren, Briana Thompson and Travis (Kristie) Thompson, both of Cincinnati, OH; Jessica (Damon) Pecot, of Ponchatoula, LA; and Melissa (Lance) Speights and Natalie (Cody Laborde) Hayes, both of Metairie, LA; and six great-granddaughters.
Calling is Wednesday, March 12, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Calvary Chapel Christian Center, 619 N. Ind.-13, Wabash. Burial will be at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
