Jerry J. Zorger

Jerry J. Zorger, 78, of Columbia City, IN, and having ties to the Roanoke, IN, area, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at 12:20 a.m. at his home.

Mr. Zorger graduated in 1953 from Jefferson Center High School, where he played basketball. He had worked at the coil factory, in Roanoke, and at Dana Corporation, in Fort Wayne, where he retired 21 years ago as a machine operator. He also farmed. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, a former member of the church softball team and a member of Eagles Lodge 1906.

He was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Allen County to Dewey and Bessie Stouder Zorger. He married Jean Hinen on June 25, 1955, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Nix Settlement. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Vicki Wolf and Tam (Scott) Downing-Snyder, both of Columbia City; two sons, Rick (Kathy) Zorger and Rod (Jenny) Zorger, both of Columbia City, and three brothers, Norman (Gloria) Zorger and Keith (Donna) Zorger, both of Spencerville, and Lyle Zorger, of Fort Wayne; a twin sister, Jean (Earl) Auld, of Auburn; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, April 22, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 2 p.m., at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 S. Line St., Columba City. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery.
