Herbert G. Best, 84 of Markle, IN, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at 2:55 a.m. at Markle Health & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Best was a 1947 graduate of East Union High School in Wells County. He served in the United States Air Force as a sergeant and was stationed in Anchorage, AK, from 1947 to 1950. He had worked for 34 years at Pretzels Inc. in Bluffton, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton.
He was born May 27, 1929, in Huntington County to Jesse Dale and Viola Mae Wilson Best. He was married to Lou Ann Girvin in November 1950 in Markle. She survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, Fredrick J. (Elaine) Best, of Roanoke; Frank S. (Anna) Best, of Fort Wayne; and Lorin G. (Stacy) Best, of Markle; a brother, Charles E. Best, of Ossian; a half-brother, Bill Blaising, of Roanoke; a half-sister, Cathryn Nichols, of North Webster; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling is Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee St., Markle. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Greg Comp officiating. Interment will take place at the Markle Cemetery at a later date.
