Judy A. Updike

Judy A. Updike, 67, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at 3:42 a.m. at her home.

Mrs. Updike graduated from Lancaster High School in 1960 and received a two-year degree from Huntington College in 1978. She worked as a controller for First National Bank in Huntington for 20 years. She later worked in the accounting department at Our Sunday Visitor for five years, at H&R Block Tax Services and at Lutheran Hospital. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where she taught children in fourth through sixth grades for 50 years.

She was born Jan. 7, 1942, in Wabash County to Harold E. and Eleanor L. Richardson Mattern. Her mother survives in Huntington.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Diana (Gary) Shenefield and Linda (Chuck) Tomlinson, both of Huntington; a son, Brian (Amanda) Updike, of Andrews; two brothers, Bruce (Carol) Mattern, of Fort Wayne, and Lynn Mattern, of Andrews; two sisters, Karen Miller, of Elmhurst, IL, and Nancy (Steve) King, of Huntington; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Calling is Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Road, Huntington. Rev. Gene Vickrey will officiate. Interment will be at Lancaster Cemetery, Huntington County.

Preferred memorials are gifts to the First Church of the Nazarene Children's Ministry or to Family Hospice Palliative Care of Berne, both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.
