William A. 'Bill' Wolverton

William A. "Bill" Wolverton, 91, of Van Wert, OH, and having ties to Warren, IN, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 3:30 a.m. at Community Health Professionals in Van Wert.

Mr. Wolverton was a 1941 graduate of Montpelier High School. He retired from Indiana Corrugated, in Warren. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Montpelier. He had lived in Blackford County until moving to Van Wert, OH, three years ago and had spent winters in Winter Haven, FL, since 1992.

He was a member and past commander of Millard-Brown American Legion Post 156, in Montpelier, and had also served as Fourth District commander, department vice commander and department membership chairman of the American Legion. He was a member of ANAVICUS (Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada-U.S.). He was a member and past Chef de Gare of Jay-Blackford Voiture 988 of 40 & 8, a former member of the Montpelier Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Hartford City Elks Lodge.

He was born March 24, 1923, in Montpelier to Abner and Elsie M. Hoskins Hawk Wolverton. He married Patricia Cary on Aug. 25, 1944, at Fort Lewis, WA, and she survives.

Additional survivors include a son, William R. (Nancy) Wolverton, of Van Wert, OH; three grandchildren, Nicole D. (Brian) Milek, of Canton, OH; Kimberly R. (Kevin) Fessenden, of Milford, OH; and Reed T. Wolverton, of Van Wert, OH; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling is Saturday, June 28, 2014, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a service following at 4 p.m., at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montpelier. Rev. Bob Allen will officiate. Interment will be at Brookside Memorial Park, in Montpelier, with graveside rites conducted by Millard-Brown American Legion Post 156.
