Robert E. Rice, 88, of Warren, IN, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 9:50 a.m. at his home.
Mr. Rice graduated from Union Township High School in 1944 and served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He retired from Fisher Body, in Marion, and was a member of the Fisher Body Sympathy Club.
He was a member of Solid Rock United Methodist Church, in Warren, and a member of Scottish Rite, American Legion Post 85 and the Warren Area Antique Tractor Club, where he was known as "Bob the Bean Man." He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689.
He was born July 4, 1926, in Huntington to Clarence and Hazel Williams Rice. He married Mary Athalene Shrock on April 19, 1944, in Peru, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 2007.
Survivors include a son, Christopher (Ellen) Rice, of Huntington; three daughters, Roberta Williams and Carol (Mike) Bowers, both of Huntington, and Susan (John) Mills, of Majenica; a brother, William (Jan) Rice, of Markle; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Calling is Saturday, July 26, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a memorial service following at 11 a.m., at Solid Rock United Methodist Church, 485 Bennett Drive, Warren.
