Mary E. Miller

Mary E. Miller, 93, of Indianapolis, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at 7:50 a.m. at Westside Village Health Center, in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Miller earned a bachelor's degree in education from Manchester College. She taught in Kokomo for 10 years and in Huntington County, at Northwest and Andrews elementary schools, for 22 years.

She was a member of the Huntington Church of the Brethren, Church Women's Fellowship, Huntington County Retired Teachers, Indiana State Retired Teachers, Dandelions Club, Delta Iota Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and the Hospital Guild. She had also served as a hospital volunteer.

She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Ervin Township, Howard County, to Berkley D. and Gertrude Hoff Sink. She married JD Oliver Miller on March 28, 1953, in Andrews, and he preceded her in death in 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Bill) Hammel, of Indianapolis, and Cheryl(Fred) Lavy, of Harrisburg, VA; four sons, David (Dianne) Miller, of Marion, IA; Arnold (Alice) Miller, of Indianapolis; Roger Miller, of Paint Lick, KY; and Dr. James (Cathy Seager) Miller, of Cortland, NY; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, July 25, 2014, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., with a service following at 2 p.m., at Deal-Rice Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Lay minister Steve Miller, Mrs. Miller's grandson, will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
