Virginia 'Ginnie' Holmes

Virginia "Ginnie" Holmes, 92, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 11:11 a.m. at her home.

Mrs. Holmes graduated in 1940 from Huntington High School. She worked as a cashier at the Indiana Gas Company, retiring in 1976. She was the secretary for the Night Owl Bowling League and was a competitive tournament bowler.

She was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Huntington to Ira J. and Gertrude J. Schaefer Baker. She married Frank N. Holmes on Dec. 7, 1940, in Andrews. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Terry L. (Marilyn) Holmes, of New Albany, OH, and Thomas W. (Marcia) Holmes, of Huntington; two daughters, Barbara K. Drayer, of Indianapolis, and Sue A. (Ed) Hacker, of Huntington; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling is Wednesday, July 30, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
