Deloris M. Fleck

Deloris M. Fleck, 106, a resident of Heritage Pointe, in Warren, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 1:05 a.m.

Mrs. Fleck graduated in 1925 from Warren High School and completed a two-year teacher preparation course at the Indiana State Normal School (now Ball State University), in Muncie, in 1927. She received an Indiana lifetime teacher's license in 1932 and was awarded a Bachelor of Science from Manchester College (now Manchester University) in 1964.

She taught at Salamonie School, in Warren, from 1927 to 1932, then spent a year teaching at Washington Center School, in Whitley County. She returned to teaching in 1951, teaching at South Whitley from 1951 to 1955, at Ligonier from 1955 to 1959 and at Thorncreek Township School, in Whitley County, from 1959 until her retirement in 1970.

She was a past matron in the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Sorosis Club and Tri-Lakes Garden Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Columbia City, until it closed in 2009 and was currently the oldest member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmette, IL. She had been a resident of Heritage Pointe since 1994.

She was born Nov. 11, 1907, in Salamonie Township to Lewis Mitchell and Martha Caroline Payne Dolby Morrison. She married Ford Bloom Fleck on June 6, 1933, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1983.

Survivors include a son, George Fleck, of Williamsburg, MA; a daughter, Carolyn Jevelian, of Wilmette, IL; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City.
