Melvin 'Dean' Welker

Melvin "Dean" Welker, 81, of Ossian, IN, and a native of Huntington County, IN, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at 10 p.m. at Bluffton Regional Medical Center, in Bluffton.

Mr. Welker graduated in 1951 from Jefferson High School. He worked at Dana Corp., in Fort Wayne, for many years and retired in 1995. He was a member and past master of Masonic Lodge 145, in Bluffton. He held state and local offices in the Eastern Star and was a member of Scottish Rite and Shrine, in Fort Wayne.

He was born July 20, 1933, in Huntington County. He married V. Arlene Pressler on June 29, 1952, at the Mt. Etna United Methodist Church, and she survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Jeff Welker, of Ossian; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home, 308 W. Washington St., Bluffton. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a eulogy given by Mr. Welker's son. Burial will be at the Mt. Etna United Methodist Church Cemetery.
