Hershel A. Schwartz

Hershel A. Schwartz, 89, of Bluffton, IN, and having family members in Markle, IN, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at River Terrace Estates.

Mr. Schwartz was a 1943 graduate of East Union High School. He served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 and was the owner of Schwartz Motors, in Bluffton, for 30 years. He was a member of the First Church of Christ and American Legion Post 111, both in Bluffton.

He was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Zanesville to Glen A. and Ethel Motz Schwartz. He married LaVerta Oldfield on July 1, 1946, in Zanesville. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2013.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (James) DeHoff, of Markle; a son, Robert (Diana) Schwartz, of Syracuse; three grandchildren, James (Angie) DeHoff, Jeff (Candas) DeHoff and Lindsay (Vince) Beasley; and five great-grandchildren.

A service was held on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel, Bluffton, with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial was at Hoverstock Cemetery, in Zanesville, with military honors by the United States Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post 111 of Bluffton.
