Barbara J. Bentz

Barbara J. Bentz, 84, of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at 9:50 p.m. at Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Bentz was salutatorian of the Roanoke High School Class of 1947. She helped her husband farm in Jackson and Clear Creek townships. She worked for International Harvester, in Fort Wayne, for 10 years; was co-owner of a trap and skeet range in Clear Creek Township for 20 years; and retired in 1988 after working as a legal secretary.

She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Mizpah Temple, in Fort Wayne and was First Lady of the Mizpah Temple in 2003. She was a member of Seminary United Methodist Church, in Roanoke, and the Monday Club and Lunch Bunch Bridge Club, both in Huntington.

She was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Gary to Franklin Dale and Marjorie A. Copeland Allman. She married Wayne H. Bentz on June 27, 1948, in Roanoke, and he survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Samuel W. (Joyce) Bentz, of Huntington; two daughters, Sally M. Hartman, of Huntington, and Beverly J. (Toby) Hullinger, of Monroeville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

There are no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at a later date, with Rev. Richard Bunnell officiating.
