Frederick D. Sprunger

Frederick D. Sprunger, 95, of Bluffton, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at River Terrace Estates, in Bluffton.

Mr. Sprunger worked as a quality engineer for Franklin Electric, in Bluffton and Siloam Springs, AR, for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He taught Sunday school classes at the First Reformed Church, in Bluffton, where he was a member, and at First United Methodist Church, in Siloam Springs, AR, for 30 years.

He graduated from Bluffton High School in 1937 and attended Purdue University. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 and was an honorary Rotarian.

He was bon Feb. 1, 1919, in Berne to Otto and Lila Lehman Sprunger. He married Dorothy Maddux on April 6, 1941, in Bluffton. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 2013.

Survivors include a son, F. Thomas (Barbara) Sprunger, of Jenks, OK; a daughter, Susan (Steve) Hart, of Huntington; a brother, Rev. Vaughn (Arlene) Sprunger, of Berne; five grandchildren, Charles (Lynette) Hart, David (Eugenia) Hart, Emily (Mike) Smith, Daniel (Melissa) Sprunger and Mitchell (Heather) Sprunger; and six great-grandchildren.

A service was held on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at the Goodwin-Cale Harnish Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Bryson Bell and Rev. Jerry Qualls officiating. Interment was at Six Mile Cemetery, with military services by the United States Air Force and American Legion Post 111.
