Helen I. Poehler

Helen I. Poehler, 92, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at 5:20 a.m. at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Poehler was a graduate of Huntington High School and a lifelong resident of Huntington. She had been employed by the H.K. Porter Company for 20 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Peter's First Community Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689 Auxiliary and American Legion Post 85, all in Huntington.

She was born Oct. 22, 1917, in Huntington to Oliver and Sophia Roeper Kocher. She married Russell J. Poehler on Feb. 15, 1955, in Huntington. Her husband survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Phillip Ruel Poehler, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Linda Sue Burk, of Angola; a stepson, David Russell Poehler, of Seattle, WA; a stepdaughter, Jean Marie Smith, of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Betty Peters, of Fort Wayne, and Louise Szewzuk, of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

A service was held at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington, on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, with Rev. Ray Scribner officiating. Burial was at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.

Pallbearers were MIke Hilton, Jerry Helms, John Stockman, JIm Biddle, Jerry Walling and Dave Rinehart.
