Darwin Gale Harper

Darwin Gale Harper, 88, of rural Wabash, IN, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at 11:10 p.m., at Wellbrooke of Wabash.

Mr. Harper was a 1943 graduate of Huntington Township High School. He was a paratrooper in the US Army during World War II. He was a printing instructor at Heartland Career Center 15 years, retiring in 1988, and also worked 20 years at Milliner Printing, in Wabash. He was a member of the LaFontaine Masonic Lodge. He was also a participant in the WWII Honor Flight Program.

He was born Dec. 17, 1925 in Huntington County to Max W. and Hazel McCutcheon Harper. He married Thelma McKinzie in Phoenix City, AL on Sept. 16, 1944. His wife survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Marcia (Terry) Knee, of Urbana; a sister, Lois McClure, of Huntington; two grandchildren, Shaun (Renee) Knee of Mentone, and Tiann D. (Bob) Aughinbaugh of Huntington; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling is Monday, Oct. 20, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Larry Ray officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
