Gordon L. Laymon

Gordon L. Laymon, 84, of Warren, IN, died Friday, Oct. 17, at 12:16 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, in Warren.

Mr. Laymon was a 1947 graduate of Warren High School. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He became the manager of Citizens Telephone Corporation in 1968, succeeding his father. He was a member of the Warren Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, the American Legion and formerly served on the board for the Pulse Opera House. He received the Samuel Jones Award in 1993, the Indiana Telephone Distinguished Service Award in 1999 and the OPASCO Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. He was a member of the Warren United Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He was born Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1929, in Warren, to Robert E. and Buena Shultz Laymon. He married Ellen M. Gebhart on Sunday, Aug. 9, 1959, in the Warren United Church of Christ. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Neil A. (Wendy) Laymon, of Warren; and grandchildren Sierra Laymon, of Fort Wayne, and Noah Laymon, of Indianapolis.

Calling is Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Warren United Church of Christ, 202 E. 2nd Street, Warren. A service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the church, with calling an hour prior. Rev. Scott E. Nedberg will officiate. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Warren.
