Ward W. 'Whitie' Chapman

Ward W. "Whitie" Chapman, 91, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mr. Chapman graduated from New Haven High School and was a former resident of Decatur. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Eagles Lodge 2653, both in Decatur, and a former member of Moose Lodge 1311, in Decatur. He worked at the Hi Ho Inn for 20 years, retiring in 1985, and was a part-time farmer for many years.

He was born Oct. 15, 1923,in Monroeville to Jay W. and Eva Z. Simons Chapman. He married Bernice M. Green on July 26, 1952, in Fort Wayne. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2005.

Survivors include a son, John W. (Denise) Chapman, of Decatur; a daughter, Connie L. (Clay) Emley, of Huntington; a sister, Katie Reeavis, of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, Kelly (Terry) Gerber, Heather (Chris) Lytle, John (Lindsey) Hoffman, Jamie Dull and Chad (Cassie) Dull; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, Oct. 24, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Decatur Cemetery.
