Joan Killen

Joan Killen, 79, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at 11:54 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Killen graduated from Huntington High School in 1953. She had worked as executive secretary to the president of Central Soya and at North American Van Lines prior to her marriage, after which she managed the business office for the family farm for more than 50 years.

She served as a precinct committeperson and vice chair of the Huntington County Republican Party and was named a Sagamore of the Wabash. She was a member of Pilchers Chapel United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Huntington County Extension Homemakers Club and was a member and past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 75.

She was born July 13, 1935, in Wooster, OH, to J. Ivan and Ruth Slagle Gaisford. She married Donald Killen on Oct. 3, 1959, in Huntington, and he survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Paul (Laura) Killen, of Huntington, and Dan (Jessica) Killen, of Port Charlotte, FL; two daughters, Kathy Wilson, of New Haven, and Melissa (Ron Foreman) Killen, of Spencerville; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Killen, of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, from 3 p.m. to 8 pm. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A service will be held at the mortuary on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at 10 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Russell Buzzard will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Etna Cemetery, Huntington County.
