Etna "Betty" Chambers, 91, of Plymouth, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at 4:20 a.m. at her home.
Mrs. Chambers moved to Huntington with her parents in 1929. She attended Huntington Township School until she married. She was a homemaker and a seamstress, making all of her family’s clothing as well as window covers and recovering furniture. She and her husband remodeled houses, living in them as the work was completed. She was the night manager of Nick’s Kitchen in Huntington from 1954 to 1955, when it was owned by Spike Fulton. She and her husband owned their own restaurant and then went on to have a real estate business and a rooming house in Huntington until their retirement. She was a member of Plymouth Church of the Brethren.
She was born April 10, 1923, in Salem, OR, to George Emmett and Laura Mann Poling. She married Martin Luther Chambers on July 14, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2012.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth (Jean) Chambers, of Huntington, and Donald (Evelyn) Chambers, of St. Petersburg, FL; two daughters, Beulah (Thomas) Fouse of Seminole, FL, and Lana (David) Alexander, of Plymouth; a brother , Charles (Laura) Poling, of Huntington; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, from noon to 2 p.m. at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County.
