Nathaniel J. Mills

Nathaniel John Mills, 41, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Mills, a 1991 graduate of Huntington North High School, joined the Markle Volunteer Fire Department at age 19 and remained a member of the department until 2013. He was a full-time emergency medical technician from 1998 until 2006 and was named a lifetime honorary EMT by the State of Indiana in recognition of his years of helping others.

He had been a full-time firefighter with the Fort Wayne Fire Department since 2006. He was a member of Fort Wayne Professional Firefighters Local 124 and Amity Lodge 483 Free and Accepted Masons, in Huntington.

He was born Aug. 6, 1973, in Marion to John and Susan Rice Mills. His parents survive in Huntington. He married Racquel Bowman on July 15, 2002, in Huntington, and she survives.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Courtney (Kenyon) Inks, of Huntington; a son, Austin Gearhart, of Huntington; a brother, Tyler (Melanie) Mills, of Fort Wayne; a sister, Katalina (Tyler) Moser, of Poneto; and four grandchildren, Trinity White, Brailey White, Alivia Inks and Landon Inks.

Calling is today March 5, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Huntington Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Rd., Huntington. A service will be held at the church on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 1 p.m., with calling two hours prior to the service. Rev. Chad McAtee will officiate.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Nate Mills 707 Memorial Fund in care of the Fort Wayne Fire Department or the Fire and Police Memorial Fund in care of Fort Wayne Professional Firefighters Local 124.
