James A. Roop

James A. Roop, 68, of Decatur, IN, and having family members in Huntington, IN, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert, OH.

Mr. Roop served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps. He also served an additional 16 years in the Army National Guard. He retired from Aramark, in Cincinnati, OH, where he worked as an industrial maintenance mechanic. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association.

He was born Jan. 23, 1947, in Adams County to Clarence L. and Dorothy E. Hakes Roop.

Survivors include two sons, Michael A. (Teresa) Roop and Dennis D. (Cheryl) Roop, both of Decatur; a daughter, Michele M. Lahr, of Huntington; four sisters, Carol Harvey, of Decatur; Vera (Otis) Wallace, of Muncie; Ruth Werst, of Van Wert, OH; and Margie Thompson, of Grover Hill, OH; and eight grandchildren.

A service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Marion National Cemetery, 1700E. 38th St., Marion. Military honors will be conduced by the United States Marine Corps.
