Allen R. Snodgrass

Allen R. Snodgrass, 57, of rural Columbia City, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at 9 p.m. at his home after a two-year battle with colon cancer.

Mr. Snodgrass and his wife made their first home in Huntington. In 1972 he was drafted into the United States Army. Following his discharge, they made their home in Peabody for a year before returning to Huntington. In 1987 they moved to their home in Washington Township, Whitley County.

He attended Columbia City Joint High School and completed his education at Huntington College.
He was employed at Bailey's Marathon, Columbia Home Improvement, Ulrich Saw Mill, Victory Noll and for the past 30 years at Shuttleworth in Huntington. He also co-owned/operated Tassco Crafts & Woodworking in Tunker for more than 10 years. His memberships included the National Rifle Association.

He was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Laporte to John William and Hilda Pauline Campbell Snodgrass Sr. He married Sally J. Winkler on Nov. 20, 1971. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Tenel (David E.) Hawn, of Columbia City, a son, Shane (Nancy) Snodgrass, of Columbia City; two sisters, Sandra Smith and Loretta Snodgrass, both of Columbia City; three brothers, Ronald Snodgrass, of Middlebury; John Snodgrass Jr., of Clinton; and Rick Snodgrass, of Columbia City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Calling is Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery.
