Worlie Newsome Sr.

Worlie Newsome Sr., 90, of Andrews, IN, died Saturday, May 9, 2015, at his home.

Mr. Newsome served in the United States Army’s 117th Infantry in World War II. He was a coal miner for 27 years in Wheelwright, KY, retiring in 1969, and was a member of United Mine Workers. He was a member of New Home Old Regular Baptist Church and was affiliated with Bethesda Free Will Baptist Church, in Andrews.

He was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Biscuit, KY, to Tolby and Nan Bentley Newsome. He married Dollie Reynolds on Aug. 4, 1942, in Prestonsburg, KY, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Worlie (Lois) Newsome Jr. and Donald Ray (Linda) Newsome, both of Andrews; five daughters, Glenda (James) Agonis, of Jacksonville, FL; Linda (Tracy) Frasure, of Bluffton; Donna (Glenn Irvin) Newsome, of Lexington, KY; Dreama Newsome, of Huntington; and Pamela (Arthur) Gunn, of Amelia Island, FL; two sisters, Rebecca Morris, of Ivel, KY; and Mable Dodrill, of St. Albans, WV; two brothers Jack (Jan) Newsome, of Cleveland, OH, and Lawrence (Charlotte) Newsome of St. Albans, WV; 14 grandchildren, Anthony Wayne Newsome, Heath Allan Newsome, Dale Duane Fisher, Teddie Dean Frasure, Steven Frasure, Chris Lee Thornsberry, Anita Kay Raber, Donald Edward Newsome, Toby Miles McClellan, Melinda Kae Krider, Holly Nicole McClellan, Nathaniel Ryan Messler, Katherine Elizabeth Friebus and Nicholas Alexander Agonis; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Deal-Rice Funeral Home Andrews Chapel. A service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at Bethesda Free Will Baptist Church, in Andrews. Rev. Jack Hamilton will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Andrews, with military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689.
