Rev. Robert L. Meyer

Rev. Robert L. Meyer, 86, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having relatives in Huntington, IN, died on Tuesday May 12, 2015.

Rev. Meyer was educated in Lutheran schools and he graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, in 1955. He served the church as a delegate to the synod conventions at district and national levels. He was an advisor to many synod organizations, including the Lutheran Layman’s League and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. He also served the district on several boards, including the board of stewardship, appeals and education, as well as the constitution committee, adjudication committee and fraternal organizations. His parishes were in Ontario, Michigan, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Indiana.

He was born March 5, 1929, in Napoleon, OH, to Leo L.H. and Minnie VonDeylan Meyer. He married Marilyn Gehner on Oct. 27, 1956, in Windsor, Ontario, and she survives.

Additional survivors include five sons, Michael (Pamela) Meyer, Daniel (Lisa) Meyer and Joel (Susan) Meyer, all of Huntington, Dale (Carla) Meyer, of Fort Wayne, and John Meyer, of Roanoke; two sisters, Marion (Fred) Gerken, of Napoleon, OH, and Lois Knuth, of Columbus, OH; 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Calling will be on Sunday, May 17, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 3416E-900N, Roanoke. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 18, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the church, with calling one hour prior. Rev. Shane Jonker, Rev. Kurt Gremel and Rev. Jonathan Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
