Mary J. Fischer

Mary J. Fischer, 81, of Fort Wayne, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 8:45 a.m. at Lutheran Life Villages, in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Fischer graduated from Defiance High School, in Defiance, OH, in 1952 and studied at Hanover College, Defiance College and Huntington College. She retired after serving as a secretary for St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Huntington, and Trinity Lutheran Church, in Ligonier. She had also served as a church pianist and supported her husband in his accounting business and Lutheran ministry.

She was born March 19, 1934 to Russell and Jesssie Fay Tryon Rothrock. She married Donald G. Fischer on March 7, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church, in Defiance, OH. Her husband survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Steven (Belinda) Fischer, of Huntington; two daughters, Peggy (Dr. Mark) Sell, of Huntington, and Rebecca Mitchell, of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Wednesday, June 3, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lutheran Life Villages Chapel, 6701 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015, at 2 p.m., with calling one hour prior to the service, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 648 N. LaFontaine St., Huntington. Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Entombment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery columbarium, in Huntington, at a later date.
