Robert J. Hendricks

Robert J. Hendricks, 88, of Huntington, IN, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at 6:22 p.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mr. Hendricks graduated in 1945 from Huntington High School, where he played basketball and went to the Final Four in 1945. He also studied for four years at Texas Christian University, where he also played basketball and lettered.

He retired from Beckley-Cardy Group, in Ohio, where he had worked in sales for 12 years. He previously taught history and coached basketball and baseball at Huntington Township. He had also worked at the VIM Sporting Store and Main Auto Sporting Goods Store, both in Fort Wayne. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Huntington. He was a founding member of Huntington County Baseball, a member and past president of the Lions Club and Metro Kiwanis Club and a member of TCU Letterman’s Club.

He was born April 21, 1927, in Huntington to Jesse and Mildred A. Stults Hendricks. He married Elizabeth Bonewitz on Aug. 5, 1950, in Huntington, and she preceded him in death in 1994. He married Albina Cirullo in Nov. 25, 1995, in Huntington, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, Robert David (Sally) Hendricks and James S. Hendricks, both of Florida, and Michael J. (Kimberly) Hendricks, of Urbana; three daughters, Kathy A. Weber, of New Albany, and Susan A. (Don) Rentschler and Jeanie (Randy) Hacker, both of Huntington; a brother, Jack D. (Mary Ann) Hendricks, of Huntington; a sister-in-law, Sally Hendricks, of South Bend; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, July 9, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary service following at 7 p.m., at Bailey-Love Mortuary, in Huntington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. Rev. Stephen Colchin will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, in Huntington.
