Hobart E. Schacht Jr., 70, of Gas City, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, died Saturday Sept. 5, 2015, at 10:59 p.m. at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Schacht was a 1963 graduate of Huntington High School. He graduated from Huntington College with a degree in education, and later went on to receive his masters from Ball State University. In high school he swam for the Huntington YMCA national team that was coached by Glen Hummer.
Mr. Schacht taught at Eastbrook High School in Grant County, where he also served as the head of the science department. He also worked part-time at the Walnut Creek Golf course in Grant County.
He was born April 16, 1945, to Hobart and Dorothy (Clark) Schacht. He was married to Tammara Truitt on Aug. 6, 1966, at the Pleasant Chapel Church in Roanoke. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Hobart “Bart” (Kimberley) Schacht III, of Fort Wayne, and Nathanael “Nate” Schacht, of Huntington; two sisters, Sandra “Sandy” Schacht, of Huntington, and Natalie Beal, of Andrews; and two grandchildren, Samantha Schacht and Hobart “Hobie” Schacht IV, both of Fort Wayne.
Calling is Wednesday Sept. 9, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Chapel Church in Roanoke. Interment will take place at Pleasant Chapel Cemetery.
