Harold J. Burns

Harold Jay Burns, 78, of Wabash, and having family members in Huntington, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Vibra Hospital of Fort Wayne.

Mr. Burns was retired from U.S. Gypsum, in Wabash, where he had worked for 40 years. He was a member of the Wabash Moose Lodge and owned several rental properties. He had lived in Wabash since 1953 and spent winters in Inverness, FL.

He was born Oct. 23, 1936, in East Point, KY, to Carl and Virgie Bolen Burns. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Burns.

Additional survivors include a son, Harold “David” (Rhonda) Burns Sr., of Wabash; two daughters, Barbara (Ricky) Nelson and Colleen (Michael) Wilcox, both of Wabash; two brothers, Corbitt (Debra) Burns and Roy Lee (Nancy) Burns, both of Paintsville, KY; a sister, Magdalene Blackburn, of Kentucky; six sisters-in-law, Pat Copeland, Mary Ward, and Betty Simpson, all of Wabash; Ruby Burns and Sharon Burns, both of Paintsville, KY; and Pat Burns, of Columbus, OH; seven grandchildren, Heather (Rick) Gaines and Nikki (Greg) Andrews, both of Huntington; and Harold David Burns Jr., Jake (April) Nelson, Amanda Nelson, Ricky (Brenda) Sears and Justin (Cara) Wilcox, all of Wabash; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash. A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Tim Prater officiating. Entombment will be at the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, in Wabash.
