John R. 'Bob' Banter

John Robert “Bob” Banter, 87, of Heritage Pointe, in Warren, IN, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at 9:36 p.m. at Heritage Pointe.

Mr. Banter graduated from Van Buren High School in 1946 and served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 711, in Van Buren, and a 61-year member of Van Buren American Legion Post 368. He was employed by Indiana Michigan Power (AEP), in Marion for many years and retired in 1991.

He was born July 30, 1928, in Van Buren to Walter and Fern Pugh Banter. He married Lola Jean Winterrowd on Nov. 14, 1951, in Marion, and she survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Rick Banter, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Ronda (Todd) Levy, of Gas City, and Rita (Jack) Rhoades, of Fort Wayne; a sister, Margaret Ann Wilshire, of Heritage Pointe; six grandchildren, Brandi, Aaron (Diane), Abby, Jake, Sam and Jared (Tiffany); and two great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a service following at 2 p.m., in Applegate Chapel at Heritage Pointe, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren. Rev. Ed Clark will officiate. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory, in Huntington County, with military honors conducted by the United States Army.
