Jerry L. Schwartz, 70, of Huntington, IN, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at 10:13 a.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mr. Schwartz was a 1957 graduate of East Union High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Ball State University in 1961 and received his master's degree from Ball State University in 1964. He taught in the Huntington County Community School Corporation at Warren High School and Huntington North High School for 34 years, teaching business education and accounting before retiring in 1995. Following retirement he worked at Myers Funeral Homes since 1996.

He was a member of the Huntington County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He was active with the Historic Forks of the Wabash for many years, where he served as the treasurer of the building campaign as well as portraying the school master and providing tours of the chief's house. He was a member of the College Park United Brethren Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He was well known around the region as a member of the Newsmen Quartet.

He was born July 10, 1939, in Muncie to Paul H. and Evelyn E. Corll Schwartz. He married Kathryn A. (Kate) Woodward on June 2, 1962, in Markle. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Jill C. (Darren) Mingear, of Vero Beach, FL, and Mary K. Schwartz, of Huntington, and six grandchildren.

Calling is Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, from 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Gary Dilley and Gerald O. Moreland officiating. Interment will be at the Markle Cemetery.
