Lois E. Smith, 89, of Columbia City, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at 2:30 a.m. at Renaissance Village of Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Smith, a 1944 graduate of Coesse High School, was a homemaker and assisted her husband with his business, A&L Smith Plumbing, Heating and Antiques. She had also worked at the Whitley County Courthouse. She attended First Church of God, Columbia City, and had lived in Huntington in the mid 1940s.
She was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Coesse to Paul and Margaret Miller Walker. She married former Huntington resident Albert L. Smith on Dec. 20, 1945, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Thomas A. Smith, of South Whitley; a daughter-in-law, Suzie Smith, of Columbia City; two sisters, Jean Mossburg and Phyllis Bear, both of Columbia City; a sister-in-law, Betty Walker, of Columbia City; five grandchildren, Amy (Trini) Broadnax, Angela Smith, Michelle Smith, Jason (Kristi) Smith and Matthew Smith; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Calling is Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columba City. A service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Nolt Cemetery.
