Max Wayne Phillips, 69, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Phillips served in the United States Army from Nov. 5, 1959, to Feb. 8, 1962. He was employed by Kroger in Fort Wayne as a diesel mechanic for 17 years and had previously worked at H.K. Porter in Huntington for 12 years. He attended Life Church in Huntington and the Third Street Church of God in Fort Wayne, where he was known as the "Bread Man" for his work in the food ministry. He was a former member of Eagles Lodge 823 in Huntington.
He was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Franklin to Thomas A. and Hazel A. Baker Phillips. He married Nancy A. Colbert on Sept. 16, 1962, in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a son, David A. Myers, of Huntington; a daughter, Aaraka S. (Tommy) Case, of Lagro; a brother, David R. Phillips, of Bear Lake; two sisters, Vickie (William) Crider, of Roanoke, and Peggy (Daniel) Johnson, of Huntington; and five grandchildren.
Calling is Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2010, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a service following at noon, at Bailey-Love Mortuary. 35 W. Park Drive, Huntington. Rev. Truman Smith will officiate. Burial, with military rites, will be at the National V.A. Cemetery in Marion.
