Henry P. 'Hank' Buchholz

Henry Percell "Hank" Buchholz, 86, of Kokomo, IN, and a former resident of of Huntington, IN, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 11:08 a.m. at Reflections Memory Care, in Kokomo.

Mr. Buchholz graduated from Huntington Township High School in 1947, earned a Bachelor of Science from Huntington College in 1953 and received a Master of Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1962. He served in the United States Navy as a communications officer aboard the USS Taylor DDE 468 and also served in the Naval Reserves for several years prior and following his active service. He taught high school physics for 28 years at Kokomo High School, where he also coached freshman football and varsity swimming and wrestling. He also taught at Fulton and Rochester high schools.

He was active in the Kokomo Civic Theater and volunteered for the American Red Cross, driving blood from hospitals to Fort Wayne and other Indiana hospitals. He donated more than 10 gallons of blood.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and a member of South Side Christian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was an elder emeritus.

He was born July 9, 1929, in Huntington to Fred H. and Effie Percell Buchholz. He married June M. Litwiller in Kitchener, Ontario, on June 24, 1953, and she survives.

Additional survivors include three sons, David F. (Julie) Buchholz, Robert H. (LuAnn) Buchholz and James R. (Deanna) Buchholz; two daughters, Laura M. (Robert Smith) Buchholz and Mary E. (Jon) Buchholz-Bearden; 12 grandchildren, Brock Buchholz, Lucas Buchholz, Johanna Goode, Tyler Buchholz, Caroline Buchholz, Christian Buchholz, Andrew Buchholz, Angela Buchholz, Mackenzie Bearden, T.J. Buchholz, Melissa Cormican and Matt Buchholz; and eight great-grandchildren.

A service was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at South Side Christian Church, Kokomo, with Rev. Becky Sundquist officiating. Entombment was at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, with military rites.
