Frances E. Smith

Frances E. Smith, 98, of Orange Beach, AL, and formerly of Roanoke, IN, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at her home.

Mrs. Smith graduated from East Union High School in 1930 and from Manchester College in 1934. She also attended Ball State University. She was a teacher in the Northern Wells Community Schools for 25 years, retiring in 1968. She last taught seventh and eighth grade English and science at East Rock Creek School. She was a member of Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was born Jan. 20, 1912, in Huntington County to Earl F. and Linnie Bronner Fluke. She married Hubert R. Smith on Sept. 21, 1940, in Zanesville. Her husband preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (James Jr.) Chesterman, of Fort Wayne; a brother, Jacob Wayne Fluke, of Bluffton; and two grandsons, James "J.D." Chesterman III and John Chesterman.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
