Wilbur 'Gene' Wendel

Wilbur “Gene” Wendel, 81, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having ties to Roanoke, IN, died Saturday, June 11, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Wendel graduated from South Whitley High School. He had owned several businesses, including the Aboite Inn, in Roanoke; Wawasee Motel, in Syracuse; and a full service gas station and car wash.

He was born July 26, 1934, in South Whitley to Carl Fred and Gladys Delight Wendel. He is survived by his wife, Rose Wendel.

Additional survivors include three sons, John (Penny) Wendel, of Manhattan Beach, CA; Robert Wendel, of Denver, CO; and James (Linda Eloph) White, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Tammy Clarke, of St. Petersburg, FL; three sisters, Julia Brock, Donna Thomson and Carolyn Augustine; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, July 14, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. Private burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
