Helen L. Wintrode

Helen L. Wintrode, 100, of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 12:45 a.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Mrs. Wintrode was a 1934 graduate of Huntington High School. She had worked as a cashier at Frank’s Grocery, in Andrews for 25 years and was known as “The Candy Lady” to children in Andrews. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and an honorary member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

She was born May 17, 1916, in Huntington to Fred and Frieda Jahnke Fahrnow. She married John Wintrode on Oct. 14, 1939, in Huntington, and he preceded her in death in February of 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Smith, of Huntington, and Diane (Mike) Crowe, of Willis, TX; a son, Jeff (Loretta) Wintrode, of Huntington; five grandchildren, Nathan Minton, Justin Crowe, Brandon Crowe, Jacob Wintrode and Joshua Wintrode; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Saturday, July 2, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a service following at 5 p.m., at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, in Andrews.
