Margaret E. Leonard

Margaret E. Leonhard, 99, of North Manchester, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Peabody Health Care Center, in North Manchester.

Mrs. Leonhard was a 1934 graduate of Chester High School. She worked as a cook at Chester High School and a seamstress at Oppenheim’s, in North Manchester. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school, participated in the Dorcas Society and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Town & Country Women’s Club and sang with the Peabody Entertainers.

She was born Dec. 11, 1916, in Wabash County to William and Clara Miller Baker. She married George A. Leonhard on Oct. 20, 1936, in Huntington. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2001.

Survivors include a son, George William “Bill” (Donna) Leonhard, of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Judy (Roger) Moore, of North Manchester; three grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Werner and Bill (Denise) Leonhard, both of North Manchester, and Stephanie (Andy) Castleman, of Carmel; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. with calling an hour prior to the service at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut St., North Manchester. Rev. J.P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Memorial gifts may be made to the George and Margaret Leonhard Entertainment Endowment, in care of Peabody Home Foundation or The Congregational Christian Church.
