Mary Kay LaMont

Mary Kay LaMont, 102, of Huntington, IN, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Tipton Place, in Huntington.

Mrs. LaMont was a graduate of Elmhurst High School. She was a representative of Niagara Cyclo Massage in Clearwater, FL; was “Aunt Sally’s helper” on the “Aunt Sally” children’s program on radio station WOWO; worked as a hosiery inspector at Wayne Knitting Mill; worked at Hartzell Travel Bureau at the Hotel LaFontaine; and served as president of Maco Corporation for more than two years.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and had served in various church offices. She was the first woman to serve on the Huntington College Board of Trustees, was a 30-year member of the Huntington College Foundation board of directors and was a member of the Huntington College Auxiliary and the Merillat Centre for the Arts Advisory Board. She had been active with Pathfinder Services, Kids Kampus, Monday Club, PEO Sisterhood, Red Cross, Good Samaritans, YMCA, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She was named Chief of the Flint Springs Tribe in 1981, the first woman to receive the honor.

She was born June 28, 1914, in Oakwood, OH, to John George and Georgia Ice Wurm. Her first marriage was in 1938 to Warren M. Hartzell, and he preceded her in death in 1964. Her second marriage was in 1965 to Herbert D. LaMont, and he preceded her in death in 1981.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Kay Adams, of Huntington, and Suzanne Gay Brown, of Auburn; a son, Phillip Lee (Julie) Harzell, of Marysville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the New Haven IOOF Cemetery, Hartzell Road, New Haven. Rev. Heather Olson-Bunnell will officiate.
