Dixie Mullins

Dixie Mullins, 78, of Columbia City, and a former resident of Huntington, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at 3:19 p.m. at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Mullins moved from Kentucky to Huntington in 1957, then moved to Columbia City in 1960. She was a waitress, cook and bartender and had been employed by the Bamboo Lounge, Wonder Bar, Hallway, 10 Pen, Billy Goat Tavern and Moose Lodge.

She was born July 1, 1931, in Floyd County, KY, to Johnie D. and Maxie Rhode Lawson Caudill. She married Glines Mullins on June 30, 1947, in Floyd County, KY. Her husband preceded her in death in March 1981.

Survivors include three daughters, Sundra “Sunni” (Stephen) Watson, Debra Lynn Mullins and Marty Johneine (Todd) Clingerman, all of Columbia City; a son, Jeffrey Glen (Sheila) Mullins, of Columbia City;  three brothers, Jack Caudill, of Mt. Vernon, IL; Benjamin Caudill, of Prestonburg, KY; and Jimmie Caudill, of Columbus, MS; three sisters, Dorothy Hand, of Eden, NC; Mary Hamilton, of London, KY; and Maudie Osborne, of Hi Hat, KY; three grandchildren, Travis E. Grunawalt and Grady L. Clingerman, both of Columbia City, and S. Wesley Watson, of Fort Wayne; a stepgrandson, Christopher Strifler, of Columbia City; and a great-grandchild.

A service was held Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City. Rev. Ross O’Dell of Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City.

Preferred memorials are gifts to the American Heart, Stroke and Lung Association, Whitley County Humane Society or Black Pine Animal Park.
