Karen L. Leffers

Karen L. Giant Leffers, 61, of Fort Wayne, IN, and having family members in Markle, IN, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at her home.

Mrs. Leffers graduated from Bishop Luers High School and was the valedictorian of her graduating class at the University of Saint Francis. She was a nurse at Lutheran Hospital for 36 years and was a volunteer at St. Therese Catholic Church and Bishop Luers High School.

She was the daughter of James L. and Beverly Giant, and her mother survives in Fort Wayne. She is also survived by her husband of 39 years, Stephen Leffers.

Additional survivors include three sons, Ryan (Jessica) Leffers, Brandon (Sarah) Leffers and Corey (Destiny) Leffers, all of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Krista (Christopher) Jones, of Stroud, England; two sisters, Kathy (Dale) Freiburger, of Markle, and Kellie (Jim) Steele, of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Kirk (Kris) Giant and Kent (Wendy) Giant, both of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling is Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary service at 8:30 p.m., at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Ave., Fort Wayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to Mass, at St. Ther ese Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. Rev. Lawrence Teteh will officiate.
