Charles R. Litchfield

Charles R. Litchfield Sr., 89, of Van Buren, IN, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Litchfield worked as a coal miner for Winding Golf Coal Mine 3, retiring after 45 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Philippines as a medic.

He was born July 17, 1920, in Swiss, WV, to George W. and Roxie Kincaid Litchfield.

Survivors include four sons, John (Evelyn) Litchfield, of Grandy, VA; and Charles R. "Chuck" Litchfield Jr., Norman (Tanya) Litchfield and Lloyd Litchfield, all of Van Buren; a daughter, Eula (Lowell) Taylor, of Van Buren; five stepdaughters, Mary Jane (Forrest) Brown, of Rainelle, WV; Phyllis (Larry) Cox and Thelma (Danny) Mullens, both of Meadow Bridge, WV; and Judy (Tom) Jennings and Shirley (Butch) Felver, both of Iowa; two stepsons, Layman Redden, of Meadow Bridge, WV; and Richard (Karen) Redden, of Upland; a sister, Dolly Holbrook, of Indianapolis; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date in West Virginia.

Ferguson and Glancy Funeral Home, Van Buren, was in charge of arrangements.
