Jerry L. Purdy, 81, of North Manchester, IN, and having ties to Huntington, IN, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at 3:55 p.m. at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
Mr. Purdy served in the United States Army. He worked as a transport driver for Sun Oil Company, in Huntington, retiring in 1997. He made 370 trips transporting children to the Shriners Hospital in Chicago, IL.
He was a member of Deming Lodge 88 F.&A.M. and Congregational Christian Church, both in North Manchester. He was also a member of Mizpah Shrine and Scottish Rite, both in Fort Wayne.
He was born April 3, 1935, in North Manchester to Paul G. And Mary E. Baker Purdy. He married Marcea S. Brandenburg on April 28, 1962, and she survives.
Additional survivors include a brother, Richard (Phyllis) Purdy, of North Manchester, and a sister, Julia A. Badskey, of North Webster.
Calling is Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind.-114 West, North Manchester. A Masonic service will follow at 2 p.m., with a funeral service immediately afterward. Rev. J.P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
