George L. Johns

George L. Johns, 90, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at 3 a.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Mr. Johnson was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He served his country in the United States Navy. He lived in Wisconsin and Illinois before moving to Huntington to work for Orton-McCullough Crane Co. He worked at Knights of Columbus Insurance and as a driver for Pizza Hut. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served as grand knight.

He was born July 18, 1926, in Waukegan, IL, to Phillip and Cecilia Duffrin Johns. He was married to Norma Jean Howard on Sept. 2, 1950, in Waukegan. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2015.

Survivors include six daughters, Kathy Johns, of Payette, ID; Karen (Rick) Chesterman and Carolyn (Chris) Bucher, both of Huntington; Mary (Sam) Lash, of Rome City; Ivy (Kevin) Selig, of Andrews; and Lenore (Bill) Larsen, of Fort Wayne; four sons, Steve (Marcy) Johns, of Dominican Republic; Thomas (Jeanne) Johns, of Huntington; Robert Johns, of Fort Wayne; and Leonard Johns, of Florida; five sisters; 30 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at 10 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry St., Huntington, with Rev. Ron Rieder officiating. Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
