Roberta M. Runkel

Roberta M. Runkel, 89, of North Manchester, IN, and having ties to Bippus, IN, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at 3:10 a.m. at Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester.

Mrs. Runkel graduated from Burket (IN) High School in 1945. She was a homemaker and a farm wife and was involved in the operation of Runkel Farms. She was also a substitute bus driver for Manchester Community Schools for 21 years and was a 50-year member of the Chester Charmers Home Economics Club.

She was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ, in Bippus, and a former member of the Servia United Church of Christ, where she had served as a deacon, trustee and choir member.

She was born May 8, 1927, in Kosciusko County to Orville and Bertha Parker Correll. She married Rex Runkel on Sept. 14, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Karen) Runkel and Steve (Cindy) Runkel, both of North Manchester; a daughter, Connie Runkel Lerner, of North Manchester; five grandchildren, Katrina Runkel, Tricia Runkel, Brian Runkel, Jama (Jorge) Garcia and Torina Runkel; and a great-granddaughter.

Calling is Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind.-114 West, North Manchester. A service will be held at the mortuary on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service. Rev. Larry Holderbaum will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
